Ep 033: Strongman Robert Jacobs On Circadian Timed Eating & Exercising
“You have to change your lifestyle. Otherwise, nothing else is going to change,” explains Robert Jacobs, strength and conditioning coach and competitive strongman. As a coach and competitor, Robert has firsthand experience on the benefits of proper strength training and conditioning. Even non-athletes can benefit tremendously from basic strength training for increased muscle mass and longevity. As a big proponent of the incredible power of small changes for influencing bigger long term change, Robert prefers lifestyle changes over short term, band aid type solutions like supplements. In this episode, Robert speaks with host Meredith Oke about the benefits of circadian timed eating and exercising for overall health and wellness.
Small changes like getting up and seeing the sunrise each morning can lead to huge improvements in health. The busy way modern people live is often completely out of rhythm with the natural way the human body was designed to work. People worry so much about what they are eating, that they do not realize ‘what’ is only part of the picture. In many cases, when you eat actually plays a larger role on your body than what you eat. Your body is meant to follow a diurnal rhythm. When you eat dinner after dark or snack on carbs late at night, you are confusing your body’s signals and reducing your ability to rest and recover during sleep. When you align your eating habits and exercise times with the natural circadian rhythm, you will gain muscle mass, lose weight, sleep better, and perform better throughout the day.
Everyone knows that eating right and exercising are essential for a healthy lifestyle. What people may not realize is that the timing of when you eat and exercise may actually play a larger role in your overall health and fitness than what you are eating or the types of exercise you are doing. If you are looking to improve your health, start with small changes. Even the littlest change in your habits can have big results.
