In this episode, we hear firsthand the negative impacts of artificial light and the ways good light can improve our health with quantum health coach Nathan Walz.
After the first 10 years of his corporate career in Washington DC, Nathan realized he had begun to burnout. He had less energy than before, increasing brain fog, difficulties sleeping, and indigestion. Eventually he found himself at a functional medicine practitioner who tested him for Lyme disease, and the test came back positive. He tried many supplements and antibiotics prescribed by the functional practitioner, but started to get even sicker. Then, he discovered Jack Kruse online, adding cold therapy and an epi-paleo diet to his regimen, amazed when he began to feel largely better within only 3 weeks. Although he was improving, there was still one piece missing - good light.
“The challenge today is most of our jobs have moved indoors, and we're spending 90% of our waking hours indoors under artificial light. And in the past 20 years or so that light has radically changed,” explains Nathan Walz. The energy efficient light we are continually exposed to nowadays is actually more detrimental to health than the incandescent bulbs of the past. The sun exposes us to a range of light rays from every color of the rainbow, while our artificial bulbs cut the spectrum down to just blue light. This type of light disrupts the production of melatonin that we need to regulate our sleep patterns, raises blood sugar, and causes inflammation deep under our skin that reduces the ability of our mitochondria to produce energy.
People evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to be adapted to sunlight. Our bodies are not equipped to handle blue light in the same way. Exposure to the right kind of light is vital for regulating our circadian rhythm and enhancing our overall health.
Quotes
“The right kind of light enhances health.” (19:54-19:57 | Nathan)
“The challenge today is most of our jobs have moved indoors, and we're spending 90% of our waking hours indoors under artificial light. And in the past 20 years or so that light has radically changed.” (20:57-21:13 | Nathan)
“We're surrounding ourselves with this light that not only messes up our sleep, it raises our blood sugar and it does all these different things to our body. It actually causes inflammation not just in our eyes, but it also causes inflammation in our skin.” (23:21-23:36 | Nathan)
“Inflammation is the enemy of energy production.” (24:33-24:35 | Nathan)
“When you're exposing yourself to the wrong kind of light, guess what? You're actually decreasing your body's ability to make energy.” (24:44-24:52 | Nathan)

In this episode, we go deep on how and why it is crucial to optimize circadian rhythms during pregnancy and beyond with doula and certified quantum biologic practitioner, Nikko Kennedy. Nikko has a Bachelor of General Science with a focus on Biology and Psychology and brings an evidence-based approach to her work which focuses on the connection between the light environment of the mother and the development of the fetus - that’s right, mom’s screen time affects the baby in utero. We also talk about light and its role in labor, delivery and postpartum. This is a fascinating, fact filled conversation that’s incredibly important.
“Spending a week in the NICU is really what kicked me off with making the connection between circadian dysregulation and pregnancy,” shares Nikko Kennedy. Nowadays, mothers give birth in bright white hospital rooms and then they bring their newborn home to an environment filled with artificial light. Even before the baby is born, pregnant women are constantly experiencing circadian disruptions due to maladaptive sleeping and eating schedules, lack of outdoor time, and a toxic addiction to blue light. Research has shown a strong correlation between circadian disruption and common pregnancy problems like pre-eclampsia and postpartum depression. It has even been shown that mental illnesses like autism and ADHD can be tied back to circadian disruption experienced by the baby while in the womb. When a mother’s circadian rhythm is disrupted, so is that of the fetus. This can lead to lifelong health complications.
Circadian rhythm is incredibly important, especially for a pregnant woman and her developing baby. New research suggests a clear connection between the role of light and the health of both the mother and the baby.
Quotes
“Spending a week in the NICU is really what kicked me off with making the connection between circadian dysregulation and pregnancy.” (5:55-6:02 | Nikko)
“We find circadian disruption being a uniting factor between some of the most mysterious yet common pregnancy problems.” (17:59-18:08 | Nikko)
“Circadian disruption is highly correlated with infertility.” (30:48-30:51 | Nikko)
“The breast milk is making the melatonin that the baby needs to transition into being an air breathing being. And so that's where it's really important for the mother to have a strong circadian rhythm through labor and delivery and postpartum so that the baby has protective melatonin to counter the natural oxidative stress that it experiences at that time.” (36:02-36:31 | Nikko)
“Babies who are premature tend to have higher oxidative stress, and mother's milk of premature babies actually tends to have higher levels of melatonin in it than babies who are full term.” (38:26-38:40 | Nikko)

In this episode Dr. Corey Ghazvini invites us to share his journey from a vegan night owl musician to a sunrise every day quantum clinician and educator. Dr. Ghazvini is board certified in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology and Biomedicine and is an expert in the science of light, water, magnetism and mitochondria. In true quantum fashion we begin by discussing the family dynamics and trauma that led him to his awareness of a deeper energy and ultimately guided him to become devoted to health and healing at the quantum level. Dr. Ghazvini shares deeply and generously about his experience, and takes us for a ride on his cosmic journey.
“The energy that we gather from the environment is exactly what we are. And as we become obsessed with societal and superficial ideas in education, we separate ourselves from this infinite amount of energy that we're capable of accessing,” explains Dr. Ghazvini. Chinese medicine understands that humans are a part of nature and that to be healthy, our bodies must be in balance with the environment. 95% of all disease is rooted in stress and a large portion of that stress can be directly linked to the artificial light and information that is all around us. By simply being in nature doing things like watching the sunrise and feeling the ground with our bare feet, it is possible to re-establish the connection between our bodies and the limitless energy of our environment.
The sun is the master conductor of all of nature, providing energy for biological processes. The typical Western lifestyle of massive reliance on technology and artificial light sources causes our mitochondria to function less efficiently, which in turn creates stress on the body that can quickly turn into disease.
Quotes
“Chinese medicine, what it truly is, is an attempt to create a system that reminds people of how coherent we are with nature.” (13:17-13:33 | Dr. Ghazvini)
“The energy that we gather from the environment is exactly what we are. And as we become obsessed with societal and superficial ideas in education, we separate ourselves from this infinite amount of energy that we're capable of accessing.” (23:33-23:58 | Dr. Ghazvini)
“Quantum biology allows us to understand that it's truly all about light and energy.” (28:22-28:31 | Dr. Ghazvini)
“What our environment is trying to do is to provide the energy that we need. That's what natural light does. And artificial light, artificial information, from the media, from the institutionalized education system, are attempting to find a way to steal your energy.” (31:25-31:52 | Dr. Ghazvini)
“Pain and symptoms are nothing more than a communication mechanism that the body is trying to use to tell you that what you're doing or where you are is completely inefficient.” (47:42-47:53 | Dr. Ghazvini)

“The main role of the heart is to vortex blood. So in a way, it is kind of responsible for the motion of blood, but just not in the way, not in the forceful pumping that we think of,” explains Dr. Stephen Hussey.
Dr. Hussey first got curious about the way heart health actually works upon reading a study that showed how inefficient the heart is as a pressure propulsion pump. In school, people are taught that the heart’s main function is to pump blood throughout the body. In reality, the heart functions more like a hydraulic ram. Dr. Hussey explains how light helps heart health and why most of what you were likely taught about the heart is probably wrong.
The heart helps with blood flow, but is not actively pumping it throughout the body. Because biological surfaces are hydrophilic, or water loving, they will attract the water in the blood, re-structure it, and then that structured water lines the arteries. Thanks to the paramagnetism of body tissues and blood, the blood is attracted to the structured water along the lining and this keeps blood flow moving. When flow is interrupted, that is when medical issues arise like blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks. The main problem is that modern life is no longer conducive to creating or maintaining healthy flow throughout the body. From processed diets to artificial light, the modern lifestyle is one that tends to keep people out of balance with their environment.
There are many ways to strengthen your heart’s ability to vortex blood. Activities like taking a walk barefoot, seeing the sunrise and sunset daily, and using an infrared sauna can help you to improve flow and boost your heart health.
Quotes
“In a hospital setting, being under this blue light and just non-healing environment, these things that interfere with the structure of water, would be the worst spot for someone to be who's in say heart failure.” (2:10-2:20 | Dr. Hussey)
“It’s no coincidence that the heart has the largest magnetic field of anything in the entire body.” (7:33-7:39 | Dr. Hussey)
“The main role of the heart is to vortex blood. So in a way, it is kind of responsible for the motion of blood, but just not in the way, not in the forceful pumping that we think of.” (10:35-10:46 | Dr. Hussey)
“It's way more important to increase flow, increase the ability of fourth phase water to structure itself onto biological surfaces, whether it's the lining of the artery or the elements of the blood, makes way more sense to focus on electron flow to keep your mitochondria functional in your heart, because that's what creates that huge magnetic field so the blood can continue to flow. And so that becomes the recipe for heart health is optimizing your physiology based on this biophysics rather than over analyzing just one aspect of the body.” (24:41-25:20 | Dr. Hussey)
“You just have to put your body in the right environment, based on physiology, based on physics really, and trust that it is going to do the right thing.” (30:59-31:09 | Dr. Hussey)

“Connective tissue literally goes everywhere, it connects everything, and it's surrounded by water. And it's surrounded by a very specific type of water called exclusion zone water that I think gives the whole body the ability to create this communication network, this coherent network that then can interact with the light outside, the light inside, electricity,” explains Carrie Bennett, MS ACN.
Carrie started off her college career as a biology major and student athlete. By senior year, her body was incredibly run down, constantly in pain, and not functioning the way it should have been for her age. Later on when she had her first child, Carrie’s health tanked and she knew it was time for answers. This led her back to school for a Masters degree in hopes of fixing her own medical issues. Through learning more about quantum biology, Carrie realized that she was extremely blue light toxic and that this toxicity was causing her and her baby’s insomnia. Today, she shares her journey from biology major to quantum health educator and nutritionist.
Carrie explains that in addition to the importance of light for mitochondrial health, several other factors were completely glossed over during her biology education; namely, biological or structured water and fascia. Fascia, also known as collagen or connective tissue, connects to every cell in the body down to the DNA level. It is surrounded by structured water and uses that to communicate with the body and the external environment. Hydration is incredibly important, because when you hydrate properly, you are improving the connectivity of the whole network. The fascia funnels energy or light through the structured water and this fuels all of the major biological processes in the body.
Water and light fuel the body’s communication system. When you properly hydrate your cells, they can create more structured water which allows your fascia to communicate more effectively with the light in your external environment.
Quotes
“There's actually a network even more profound, that is even further reaching and deeper reaching than the circulatory system, and it's called our connective tissue, our fascia.” (16:46-16:57 | Carrie)
“Connective tissue literally goes everywhere, it connects everything, and it's surrounded by water. And it's surrounded by a very specific type of water called exclusion zone water that I think gives the whole body the ability to create this communication network, this coherent network that then can interact with the light outside, the light inside, electricity, and all of it all comes together through the connective tissue.” (18:03-18:28 | Carrie)
“If we're focusing only on drinking water, we have to focus on the quality of water that we're drinking.” (23:14-23:20 | Carrie)
“We are now aware that these chemicals directly can impact the fascial system, and when they impact the fascial system, they change the water's ability to receive the light and communicate the message.” (24:55-25:07 | Carrie)
“It’s through movement that the fascia truly funnels the water.” (33:15-33:19 | Carrie)

“We don't stop at the barriers of our skin. We are intimately connected to the terrain within us, the microbiome, but that terrain expands throughout the universe,” explains Dr. Catherine Clinton, licensed naturopathic physician and quantum biology educator. Dr. Clinton was diagnosed with a slew of health issues from ulcerative colitis to Lyme disease all while in her second year of medical school. This led her to learning more about the connection between light and mitochondrial health. Today, she shares how connecting with nature can be used to improve mental health.
The whole body is a messaging system. Chronic diseases and sickness occur when there are blockages within the body’s communication system. These blockages are often a symptom of the modern lifestyle and come from sources like artificial light, processed food, and chronic stress. When the body can’t communicate effectively within itself, the immune system becomes deregulated. It’s important to #tendyourterrain, or your microbiome because your body is connected with everything in the universe through #quantumbiology. When your internal and external terrain are out of sync, your physical and mental health suffer. Connecting with nature is a great way to regulate your body and improve your mitochondrial health.
The negative health impacts of chronic stress and the modern lifestyle can last indefinitely if they are not addressed. Going barefoot in the grass, getting morning sunlight, and eating clean, unprocessed foods are relatively simple changes that can help restore the connections within your body’s messaging system.
Quotes
“All of these connections, the immune system, the gut, the heart, our neurological connection, our fascial connection, the way our mitochondria communicate, our whole body is a messaging system.” (7:01-7:18 | Dr. Clinton)
“The blockages in the communication are where our sickness and our chronic disease really stem from.” (8:47-8:55 | Dr. Clinton)
“That stressor, that trauma, that chronic stress, and the changes that happen in our body can last a lifetime if they're not addressed.” (18:35-18:45 | Dr. Clinton)
“We don't stop at the barriers of our skin. We are intimately connected to the terrain within us, the microbiome, but that terrain expands throughout the universe.” (29:37-29:50 | Dr. Clinton)

“The eye is the most important organ. It's the metronome for the circadian system,” explains Dr. Jay Montgomery, ophthalmologist.
Dr. Montgomery started learning all he could about quantum biology after developing several chronic health conditions that nearly cost him his career. Today, he provides a masterclass on the eye clock and how it controls all aspects of health.
When Dr. Montgomery started to learn more about the link between mitochondrial health and sunlight, he realized that the paradigm he and other physicians have been using on patients for decades is completely backwards. Typically the advice is to cover up when in the sun and avoid UV rays, but this is actually the worst thing someone can do for their health. The eye is not only about vision, but also contains a clock that links with every cell of the body by transmitting signals that activate certain processes. These signals even control the production of critical hormones like melatonin and dopamine. When you completely block out sunlight and instead expose yourself to artificial light, you are disrupting your eye clock which in turn disrupts your circadian rhythm.
Artificial light is causing a large increase in chronic illness diagnoses and also negatively impacting mental health. By watching more sunrises and sunsets, sleeping and eating at regular times each day, using blue light blockers at night indoors, and exposing yourself to the sun instead of covering up, you can improve your overall health and reduce inflammation throughout the body.
Quotes
“What made me sick was artificial blue light.” (5:31-5:35 | Dr. Montgomery)
“We would not have ultraviolet receptors and chromophores in our retina if we weren't designed to receive that light from our environment.” (13:13-13:21 | Dr. Montgomery)
“The paradigm that tells us to avoid ultraviolet light on our eyes and our skin is absolutely wrong, and the primary source of ultraviolet light is the sun.” (13:25-13:36 | Dr. Montgomery)
“The number one stress that we face in our modern world is the abnormal light environment that we actually put ourselves into every day. We're designed for solar light environment, and that is so clear. The evidence is, in my opinion, inarguable at this point. And we're making ourselves sick simply with our modern technology and our indoor lifestyle. When you disrupt the circadian clock through the retina, it doesn't really matter what kind of diet or exercise you do, you're going to get sick eventually.” (18:48-19:19 | Dr. Montgomery)
“Inflammation at the cellular level is the cause of every modern disease.” (19:55-19:59 | Dr. Montgomery)
“The eye is the most important organ. It's the metronome for the circadian system.” (20:17-20:23 | Dr. Montgomery)
“Once you have macular degeneration or you have a neurodegenerative disease, I do think this can help, but it depends on how far down the line you are before you start intervening with this protocol.” (29:52-30:02 | Dr. Montgomery)
“Melatonin and dopamine are designed to be first produced in the eye.” (31:02-31:05 | Dr. Montgomery)

“The average maximum security prison nurse gets more time outside than children do today,” shares Jim Laird, master strength and conditioning fitness coach with 25 years of experience. Today, Jim acts as the guest host alongside co-host Jackie Jolie, a recent graduate of the Quantum Health Practitioner Program level one, to talk about lessons learned throughout their careers from lifting weights to watching sunrises.
Jackie met Jim at a CrossFit gym. She was a college student doing all the usual things, barely eating, avoiding proteins and fats, and ignoring weight training in favor of cardio. Training with Jim changed her entire mindset, as she realized she could actually eat real foods and gain muscle tone while staying a healthy weight. When Jackie ended up with Lyme disease, Jim helped her again by introducing her to the world of quantum biology and the role of sunlight in overall health. She had been spending a lot of time outside working with horses, but had not known how the timing of sun exposure played a large role in mitochondrial health. Now they encourage others to think differently, showing people with autoimmune conditions and chronic diseases that healing can be as simple as getting reconnected with nature, seeing the sunrise, and helping the body become more resilient to everyday stressors.
The modern world is designed to limit our time in nature. Kids barely go outside to play, people work long days indoors, and all of this is viewed as normal. If you go back even just a couple decades, people were regularly spending time outside and there were much lower rates of chronic disease and obesity. It is important to lead by example and encourage others to connect with nature daily for their overall wellbeing.
Quotes
“Our modern world is designed to pull us away from nature. If you go back even to 1970, and you look at beach pictures of 1970 or pictures from Woodstock, there were no obese people. None. Half those people didn't work out. Women in the 1950s, sixties, it was unfeminine. Marilyn Monroe was one of the first women to actually strength train. And what did they do? They spent a lot of time outside. They didn't eat the garbage that we eat now. They made most of their food from scratch. They mowed their grass. They lived an active lifestyle. They went to the beach. They spent tons of time outside. They didn't have screens. So our number one battle is to look at the awesome technology that allows us to have this conversation and help as many people as we can. How do we balance being in touch with nature with the convenience of modern life?” (17:19-18:19 | Jim)
“The thing that I didn't really expect was going to happen after you see all the physiological stuff is, I had a better ability of coping mechanisms.” (23:16-23:26 | Jackie)
“The average maximum security prison nurse gets more time outside than children do today.” (28:02-28:06 | Jim)
“In our modern world, we're going to need people that lead by example.” (37:52-37:56 | Jim)
“How quickly could racism go away if we were teaching kids in elementary school that skin color is a light story? That your friend has genes that come out of Africa and their darker colored skin, because that body needs more sun than you do.” (56:24-56:41 | Jackie)

“A fundamental problem that people have is they've got enough energy to survive, but they can't thrive. And that's where I think quantum biology provides this enormous lens to allow people to tap into energy,” shares Sara Pugh, PhD. Dr. Sara is a polymath scientist turned quantum practitioner with a wealth of experience across many disciplines. She has experience in everything from pilates and functional neurology to close up magic and hypnosis. Today, host Meredith Oke talks with Dr. Sara Pugh about quantum biology and its connections to everything.
Whether you’re looking at how hypnosis works, why people are able to be tricked by stage magic, or health concerns like heart rate variability and chronic pain, everything comes down to quantum biology and circadian rhythm. When the body does not have order, there is room for inflammation to take over. Often people think changing their diets is enough to fix their health. However, 60% of electrons come from non-food sources like sunlight, and without that trigger, the body is unable to create vital hormones. People need to spend more time regulating their circadian rhythm by connecting with nature, seeing the sunrise and sunset, and eating and sleeping at the correct times. These elements are key for enabling the mitochondria to generate enough structured water for the body to perform optimally.
When you get down to it, everyone is connected through quantum biology. When circadian rhythm is out of order your mitochondria cannot create enough structured water and health problems begin to occur.
Quotes
“When I've looked at people's heart rate variabilities, there tends to be lots of problems there because we don't sort of do basic things like going out and cuddling or stroking animals or being in nature and just feeling part of the universe.” (15:30-15:46 | Dr. Sara)
“You can have all of the precursors in the world to make a neurotransmitter, but if there's not the trigger, like the sunlight, the serotonin isn't gonna get made.” (23:04-23:12 | Dr. Sara)
“The blue light from the sun is our timekeeper, and a brain that can't tell the time is like a brain that doesn't know where it is. It's gonna be confused and stressed out.” (25:47-25:56 | Dr. Sara)
“Inflammation is chaos, and the more order there is in the body, the better.” (26:23-26:27 | Dr. Sara)
“We get 60% of our electrons from non-food sources.” (30:20-30:24 | Dr. Sara)
“A fundamental problem that people have is they've got enough energy to survive, but they can't thrive. And that's where I think quantum biology provides this enormous lens to allow people to tap into energy.” (33:53-34:06 | Dr. Sara)

“Anybody that's had a phone for a long time, you know after a while the battery loses its capacity to hold a charge. And when we don't take good care of ourselves, our body does the same thing,” explains quantum health coach Nathan Walz. Today guest host Nathan talks with his student Peter Bort about how studying quantum biology changed his mindset towards health. Peter became a student of quantum health when he realized that allopathic medicine was not working for him anymore. As he aged, he began to struggle with weight gain, brain fog, and chronic pain. Peter’s intuition was telling him it was time for a change. When he discovered the quantum blueprint and modified his lifestyle habits, the weight gain fell off and his health improved.
The amount of energy your body can generate depends on your mitochondrial health. By spending time in the sun, grounding himself in nature, adding seafood to his diet, drinking more water, and reducing EMF exposure, Peter was able to tune his circadian rhythm and radically improve his health. When it comes to your own body, you need to listen to your intuition for signals on what is working and what needs to change.
Your body can only expend energy for so long before it ends up depleted. Recharge your body by plugging back into the sun and the Earth and working on improving your overall mindset through practices like daily affirmations, mindfulness, and manifestation.
Quotes:
“I had the mindset to always want to push myself physically, but I got to a point where my body just wasn't able to keep up with what I mentally wanted to do.” (8:50-8:59 | Nathan)
“I was just eating different. I was eating different times and I was eating different food and all of a sudden, boom, there goes the 35 pounds I didn't need.” (11:09-11:18 | Peter)
“When I look at my health journey, it was about realizing that it's all about the free electrons. It's all about firing up the batteries, the little batteries in my cells. It's all about, my iPhone has gotten really weak on battery. Plugging it back in, plugging it into the sun, plugging it into the grounding. And having good breathing practices, which is something that Nathan is a good coach on. Because that's vital energy coming in through what we take in as that oxygen.” (12:15-12:56 | Peter)
“You don't want your devices, your cell phones, iPads, laptops, cordless phones, clock radios. You just don't want that stuff in your bedroom.” (14:54-15:09 | Peter)
“This paradigm of health is a lifelong learning. It's not just take a pill and carry on.” (15:53-16:00 | Peter)
“Anybody that's had a phone for a long time, you know after a while the battery loses its capacity to hold a charge. And when we don't take good care of ourselves, our body does the same thing.” (16:21-16:31 | Nathan)
